Mondays@7 begins its run with Tennessee Williams, one of America’s greatest playwrights, who revolutionized modern theatre with plays depicting real life through poetry and humour. The one-act plays chosen for our first show are amongst Williams‘ earliest works, portraying wounded people with wit, tenderness, but also violence. They are often early versions of his legendary characters such as Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire.
Williams’ Deep South is peopled with misfits who cannot accept reality and cling to a long gone past. Much like the characters in the plays of Chekhov, whom Williams greatly admired, they survive only through illusions and pretence.
English speaking actors bring the characters to life with truth and sensitivity. Live music plays an essential role in our productions with traditional and original blues sung by young actor/musicians for this show.
